The applicant to the degree of Doctor of Science with specialty in Mechanical Engineering must have a Master of Science degree with specialty in a related engineering master's degree from the National Polytechnic Institute or a Master's degree in Science or Engineering, obtained in any institution of higher studies in Mexico or abroad recognized by the National Polytechnic Institute. This master's degree must have been obtained within a period of no more than ten years prior to the date of enrollment in the doctoral program, or if applicable, demonstrate that he/she has been active in research and/or technological development during the aforementioned period.

Likewise, the applicant must show that he/she has sufficient capacity to apply state-of-the-art technology to solve problems and/or carry out research work.
